How time gets entered
The calculator accepts 24-hour clock (17:30) or 12-hour with AM/PM (5:30 PM). If you type just hours and minutes (9:00) it assumes 24-hour. End time before start means an overnight shift — the math wraps to the next day.
Why decimal hours matter
Most payroll systems expect time in decimal format (8.5 hours, not 8 hours 30 minutes). The conversion: minutes ÷ 60. 30 minutes = 0.5, 15 minutes = 0.25, 45 minutes = 0.75.
